Culture Experiencing - Garden Barbecue Party in Summer
Garden barbecues in summer is part of life for many UK families. To provide this experience, a barbecue party was organised for all China Construction Bank (CCB) students in joint with PHBS staff, staff’s family and friends at the beautiful garden of PHBS Boars Hill campus on last 19th of July, during the afternoon. Around 60 guests attended, despite the continuous rain showers, which did nothing to deter everyone from having a very enjoyable time.
The resident cook, Mr Song, prepared a huge range of dishes including wild boar sausage, pork sausage, spicy lamb kebabs, chicken, steak, sardines, vegetable kebabs, pork steaks, potato salad and coleslaw, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, and hamburger patties. There was also a big jug of punch, prepared by Jacqueline O'Brien (Office Manager / PA), and lots of beer.
Three barbecues were set up outside the Great Hall and, protected from the elements by a gazebo, the cooks had a wonderful time barbecuing the meat for all the guests. Some of the CCB students volunteered to assist and their help was greatly appreciated. Meanwhile, students, staff and guests had gathered inside the hall where they were able to socialise with each other out of the rain. The ping pong tables were also in constant use.
CCB students and staff enjoyed the barbecue party very much and a student commented that ‘this was his first time in experiencing a barbecue party, where he had a wonderful time and met many new friends’.
The festivities ended at 7.00 pm. when the coach for the CCB students arrived to take them all back to Summertown.
