On December 11, 2024, students, faculty, and guests of the Peking University HSBC Business School – UK campus (PHBS-UK) converged at the Great Hall to usher in the New Year under the theme "Elevate and Innovate." From the star-studded red-carpet entrance to the heartfelt dinner, and then to the lively singing, every moment pulsed with youthful energy and delight as they reflected on the highlights of 2024 and embraced the promise of 2025.
The red carpet was gracefully unrolled, marking the opening of the gala. Students arrived in elegant attire, their smiles shining brightly as they posed for photos and greeted one another warmly. With confident strides, they transformed the red carpet into a vibrant tapestry of personalities and a dazzling starry pathway. Applause and laughter filled the air, making this a shared moment for the entire PHBS-UK community.
Following the red-carpet ceremony, faculty members and students gathered for the New Year feast. Long tables were laden with an array of delectable dishes, including roast beef, turkey, and traditional mince pies, all served with a festive flair. Conversations buzzed with laughter and joy, as friendships deepened in the cozy atmosphere.
After dinner, everyone moved to the garden for a handheld sparklers display. Sparkling lights danced in the night sky, casting a magical glow over the winter landscape. Smiles mirrored the starlight, while fireworks painted wishes and dreams for the New Year. This was a starlight feast belonging to the PHBS students, and a collective blessing for the future.
The "Singing in Britain" session then elevated the gala's atmosphere to new heights. As stage lights dimmed, contestants confidently took the stage, infusing the night with warmth and vitality through their songs. From soulful ballads to lively pop tunes, each contestant poured their heart into their performance, showcasing their love for music and unique charm. The audience sang along softly, or cheered warmly, immersing themselves in the sea of music and revelry.
At the end of the competition, three outstanding contestants emerged victorious: Li Sicheng, from the 2024 International Finance program, Chan Weng Ian, from the 2024 International Finance program, and Huang Haoyang, a 2023 short-term exchange student. They claimed the first , second , and third place respectively, earning their own glory with talent and passion.
Hui Chenyuan, a student from the 2024 International Finance program, added a special touch to this session by presenting a music video featuring students' daily life, studies, and travels in Britain. The video captured vibrant street scenes, focused classroom moments, joyful travels, and heartwarming companionship. Set to moving music, the video brought everyone back to those cherished memories, evoking tears of emotion and smiles of recognition.
As the gala drew to a close, each participating student received a small New Year gift. From the glamour of the red carpet to the warmth of the dinner, from the moving songs to the delightful surprises, every moment made this winter night unforgettable. This gathering was not just a farewell to the old year but also a welcoming embrace of the new.
